It’s often a major struggle to take even a tiny step away from traditional medicine’s path of drugs and surgery. The pressure from family and friends to stay on the old path can be intense, leading us into self-doubt, guilt and anxiety. Standing up against people that care about you and think your treatment choices are wrong can be difficult. But standing up against your GP who doesn’t know about or approve of alternative treatments for chronic pain can take all the strength you can muster!
Following is a story of a former patient (I’ll call her Jan) who recounted such an experience with her doctor.
Jan had chosen an alternative path for part of her healthcare. She had recently broken three toes and thought it would be a good idea to get a bone density test. To have her insurance company pay for it, Jan needed a prescription from her GP.
Having extensively read my Curing Chronic Pain website and my book about abnormal foots structures that cause chronic muscle and joint pain, Jan explained to her GP that she was born with a slight foot twist and rotated talar bone (in her foot) and that this abnormal foot structure caused her entire skeleton to twist, causing scoliosis and toes bridged with bone spurs.
Jan further explained that though her posture has been corrected and her chronic pain is now gone, she was concerned that her bone spurs may be contributing to her broken toes, as they seemed to be breaking without any apparent reason. (For example, she didn’t have an accident or walk into a cement block).
Jan asked the doctor for an x-ray and a bone density test. The GP agreed it was a good idea to have the bone density test, but didn’t think x-rays were needed because Jane’s toes were in the process of healing.
The doctor then said, “Take off your shoes and let me see your feet.” She leaned over and without examining or even touching Jan’s feet, said: “I don’t see anything abnormal about your foot structure. Other than the broken toes, your feet look perfectly normal.”
Jan explained: “My abnormal foot structure can’t be seen just by looking down at my feet; but my feet used to twist and hurt when I walked. I saw a specialist about this problem and he told me that I have an abnormal foot structure that is difficult to diagnose without running specific tests. When I learned more about this, I found that what he told me made sense.”
The doctor said VERY firmly, “There’s nothing at all abnormal about your feet. They’re perfectly normal. But I am concerned that you’ve broken these toes without any apparent reason, so, yes, let’s look at your bone density.”
In the end, Jan walked out of the doctor’s office “SO ANGRY,” she decided that, other than the bone density test, she was not going to discuss this with her GP again! Instead, she decided to contact me to ask some questions about her broken toes.
How To Choose An Alternative Treatment For Chronic Pain
Just think what impact this doctor’s opinion would have had on Jan if she had never seen, first hand, the amazing results of effectively treating her abnormal foot structure (which completely eliminated her chronic knee, hip and back pain).
Imagine if, in addition, Jan’s family was saying, “Your GP, who saw you in person, says you have normal feet, but instead you’re going to believe something you read on the INTERNET!!!!!!!!! Are you crazy?”
Perhaps you, too, are considering an alternative treatment for your chronic muscle and joint pain – it may even be Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy. And perhaps you’re getting the same backlash from your own GP, family and friends.
How did my patient get through it? Before Jan started my therapy, she read all the information she could find to be sure it made sense to her. And then, after she satisfied her intellect, Jan listened to her inner voice and followed her instinct. And her instinct was right – Jan now lives a life free from chronic pain.
If you do the same, in the end you will come out stronger for it, knowing your inner guidance is pointing you in the right direction.
As the developer of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy, I regularly publish new information on this website. It’s there to help you understand about the two abnormal foot structures that may be causing your chronic muscle and joint pain.
If you have tried traditional medicine and your GP’s advice hasn’t worked for you, it may be time to look elsewhere. Although the internet is crammed with health information, some of it is not written in your best interest so I strongly suggest that you research the credentials, background and experience of the doctor you are considering. Read their work – does it make sense to you? What is their success rate in permanently eliminating or greatly reducing chronic muscle and joint pain?
In the end, if you want to get rid of your chronic muscle and joint pain, you have to be strong enough to look past what your well meaning family, friends and doctor have to say. When choosing an alternative treatment for your chronic pain, do your own research and make your own decision. Get the facts – first satisfy your mind and then look to your own inner guidance.
Reading the Curing Chronic Pain website will give you more information about the abnormal foot structures I discovered that cause many forms of chronic muscle and joint pain and help you determine whether an Initial Phone Consultation with me might be helpful.
