Profile Of A Typical Candidate For Therapy
If you suffer from sciatica symptoms such as severe low back pain that radiates down to pain in the back of the thigh, then you already know how debilitating sciatic hip and leg pain can be.If you read the medical literature on the cause of sciatica, you’ll find the most common cited cause is degenerative disc disease. But in my 40 years of clinical research, I have found this not to be the case
So what causes sciatica and how can it be healed? The answer lies in understanding the mechanics of how the pelvis moves.
The sciatic nerve runs through an opening in the pelvic bone called the greater sciatic notch, then down the leg and into the back of the foot. When the pelvis is in its’ correct position (not rotated forward) there is ample room in the greater sciatic notch for the sciatic nerve to pass through. But when the pelvis is rotated forward, the sciatic nerve is compressed or pushed against the greater sciatic notch by a tightened hip muscle. This hip muscle is known as the periformis muscle. (see illustration)
When you compress a nerve, it’s like sitting in a chair for a long period of time. A compressed nerve will result in numbness, tingling, and if the duration is long enough; pain leading to nerve degeneration.
If you’re sitting in a chair, you can stand up before this happens. But when you have a chronically forward rotated pelvis, standing up does not relieve the compression on the sciatic nerve, so in time you develop symptoms that we term sciatica.
This is the real cause of sciatic symptoms!
Once this is understood, it becomes quite apparent that the only way to heal sciatica is to reverse the forward rotation of the pelvis, placing it back into its’ correct anatomical (level) position. In order to do this, we must determine what is causing the pelvis to rotate forward.
In 2002, I published in a medical peer review journal, on two inherited abnormal foot structures – Rothbarts Foot and PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity – that if left untreated will result in an anterior rotation of the pelvis. It’s not surprising that many of the patients that I’ve seen (who have one of these two common foot structures) develop sciatica.
A non invasive, non surgical, non drug therapy is now available to treat these abnormal foot structures, which in turn reverses the forward rotation of the pelvis and the associated sciatic symptoms.
That is, the real cause of sciatica, in many cases, is the Rothbarts Foot or PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity and the way to heal sciatic symptoms is using the non invasive treatment called Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy.

Whether your chronic pain manifests as symptoms of sciatica such as overwhelming low back pain, hip and leg pain, severe pain in the back of the thigh, or all-over muscle and joint pain, why struggle with temporary fixes and treatments that only work in the short term?
If your herniated disc or other symptoms of sciatica are being caused by abnormal posture created by one of the two foot structures I’ve described, then healing your sciatica can be accomplished without drugs or surgery.
