Our bimonthly newsletter includes a segment called Question Corner, in which our readers send us their questions on their chronic pain problems. Below are answers to questions on malocclusions and pigeon toes.
How often do you see a patient with both an abnormal foot structure and a malocclusion?
The problem seems to occur more frequently as a person ages, as I don’t see these bite problems in children as much as in adults. I believe that the reason for this is because it is the abnormal foot structure that creates the malocclusion, and so the longer you wait (before resolving the problem in your feet) the greater the probability you will end up having a problem with your bite.
I’ve been searching for a cure for my pigeon toe. I’m so clumsy, it embarrasses me. Are there any exercises you can recommend to cure it?
Pigeon toe (intoeing) is the name given for a condition of when you stand and walk your toes point inwards. Children subconsciously intoe to protect themselves from uncomfortable excessive pronation (foot twist).
Your feet excessively twist when you have one of two abnormal foot structures – either a Rothbarts Foot or PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity.
There are no exercises that will cure a pigeon toe gait. The only way to reverse your intoeing is to treat your abnormal foot structure using Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy.
