Why A Consultation With Dr. Rothbart Is Different Than With Other Doctors
Profile Of A Typical Candidate For Therapy
An article in the Kansas City Star comments on the report; Relieving Pain in America: A Blueprint for Transforming Prevention, Care, Education and Research. This report states some very interesting observations:
“Pain treatment is hampered by inadequate training of doctors, insufficient insurance reimbursements and the negative attitudes of both doctors and patients toward people in pain.”
1. Regarding “inadequate training of doctors”:
It is obvious that most doctors are inadequately trained in how to successfully treat chronic muscle and joint pain, as there are millions of people in the USA alone, who, despite being treated year after year by a multitude of ‘specialists’, still suffer with chronic pain.
Most therapies for chronic pain are termed ‘pain management’. The word ‘management’ itself denotes that the therapy does not permanently eliminate the pain, but merely controls it. This puts the sufferer in a life long treatment program in order to maintain a semblance of comfort and mobility in their body.
Let’s look at reality; if doctors were adequately trained in how to successfully treat chronic pain, their patients would get better, stay better and no longer have need for pain management therapies.
2. Regarding “insufficient insurance reimbursements”:
My question is – What difference does it make whether insurance companies reimburse all, or only part of, your treatment, if the treatment itself is ineffective?
This statement (“insufficient insurance reimbursements”) seems like an evasion of what is really happening in patient care.
To look at the reality of insurance coverage, one must look at politics. Lobbyists for pharmaceutical companies have pushed for mandatory insurance, to be paid by every US citizen. For obvious reasons, this mandatory insurance will mostly cover treatments that include prescriptive pain medication and surgery.
Drugs and surgery are ineffective because they do not address the cause of chronic pain, but only manage the pain. Pain medication must be used continuously to subdue pain and surgery often must be performed numerous times, as the joints degenerate.
Pharmaceutical companies, surgeons and insurance companies all win. The pain sufferer loses.
So the question is not how much money insurance companies will reimburse. The question is why don’t insurance companies cover all therapies (traditional and alternative) of the patient’s choice?
Sadly, because (limited) insurance coverage is becoming mandatory, some Americans no longer have available financial resources to spend on alternative treatments that have proven to be effective.
3. Regarding “the negative attitudes of both doctors and patients towards people in chronic pain”:
In a perfect world, all doctors would be compassionate and understanding of the suffering their patients are experiencing. But, similar to a man being unable to understand or feel a woman’s pain during child birth, many doctors aren’t able to grasp the horror of being in constant pain. Sometimes it’s difficult to be compassionate if one has not experienced the same suffering.
It’s no wonder that chronic pain patients may have “negative attitudes” – they constantly hurt, they (justifiably) feel misunderstood and often their entire life (professional and family) is challenged, if not destroyed, due to the many hardships incurred trying to get through daily life while living with an excruciating condition.
The above report statement points to some very good reasons to be treated by Professor/Dr. Rothbart.
1. Professor/Dr. Rothbart has over 40 years of research and clinical experience (more experience than anyone in the world) treating chronic muscle and joint pain caused by two inherited, abnormal foot structures.
He has extensively published his research in numerous peer review medical journals, written a book and lectured around the world; educating doctors and laypeople on the Rothbarts Foot and PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity.
2. Competent doctors who understand the cause of your chronic pain problem and use an effective therapy to treat that cause get people well. ‘Better insurance reimbursements’ do not.
Because of the trend of providing insurance coverage mostly for traditional therapy (drugs, surgery, etc), Professor/Dr. Rothbart’s therapy is not usually covered by insurance. So, one must decide. Do you want better insurance reimbursements, which will enable you to continue in chronic pain management treatment, or are you looking to permanently eliminate your chronic pain?
3. Professor/Dr. Rothbart lived with debilitating pain for years and knows the impact it has on the quality of one’s life. He cured himself with the therapy he developed – Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy.
Because of this experience, he truly understands and empathizes with his patients and helps them through therapy, in a way that many other doctors (who have not lived with chronic pain) can not.
