In this article, Professor/Dr. Rothbart answers your questions about causes of arthritis that are not the result of having an abnormal foot structure and why your doctor doesn’t believe you when you tell him you hurt.
Are there other causes of arthritis in addition to abnormal foot structures?
The word arthritis is a general term indicating joint inflammation. Arthritis can be caused by many types of diseases. A few examples are:
Rheumatoid Arthritis – happens when the body’s immune system doesn’t properly function.
Gout – caused by uric acid crystals deposited in the joints.
Septic Arthritis – the result of a bacterial or fungal infection within the joint.
Psoriatic Arthritis – a rheumatoid-like condition associated with abnormalities in the skin and nails.
Why doesn’t my doctor believe that I hurt?
Doctors are trained traditionally. That is, their primary tools to fight disease are drugs, surgery and physical therapy. They only recently accepted that chiropractic care might be useful in eliminating some types of muscle and joint pain. So if you’re doctor has exhausted all of the above options and your pain still persists, then he concludes your pain must be psychosomatic (all in your head).
If your doctor does not understand how you feel, you need to find a healthcare professional who does.
