When you were a child, your grandmother may have admonished – Junior, please stand up straight. And for fear of further scolding and perhaps threat of ballet lessons, you promptly pulled in your stomach and lifted up your back.
Then as soon as you exited the room, with a great exhalation everything went back to where it was before. After a few close calls, every time you were around grandma, everything got lifted back up. Luckily – no ballet lessons.
As you grew up, your posture probably got worse. Happily, no one commented on your protruding butt, sway back, slumping shoulders and forward head position.
When did it all change? It changed when you started having back pain. And then that back pain became chronic. If you’re like most other people, there’s something about chronic pain that incites one to take action. So at this point you go visit your chiropractor.
What does the doctor tell you? Low and behold, he explains that your back pain is coming from your terrible posture. Gramma would be so proud – do you feel an ‘I told you so’ coming on?
But one thing neither your doctor nor grandmother know; is how you got such bad posture in the first place.
Hardly Anyone Considers The Hidden Cause Of Bad Posture
Why do so many children (and later, as adults) have bad posture? Is it laziness, bone malformation or lack of calcium and magnesium? Is it not eating your spinach?
The most common cause of bad posture is being born with an abnormal foot structure; either the Rothbarts Foot or PreClinical Clubfoot Deformity.
Chances are no one ever told you that your feet are the likely cause of your bad posture – probably because they weren’t aware of it themselves. So I guess you could call it the hidden cause. Strangely enough, this hidden cause of bad posture affects a large percentage of the human race.
Maybe the reason this cause of bad posture is so hidden is because most people don’t connect their posture (something they see as a back problem) with their feet.
