Why A Consultation With Dr. Rothbart Is Different Than With Other Doctors
What exactly is proprioceptive stimulation? Let’s start with a definition of the word proprioception – Proprio comes from the Latin word proprius, meaning “one’s own” and perception is the sense of the relative position of neighboring parts of the body.
Proprioceptive stimulation is a process in which the brain is stimulated to automatically adjust the body’s posture. This is done when a tactile stimulation is applied to the bottom of the feet (through standing or walking). Through this stimulation, a message (signal) is sent to the cerebellum (the balance center of the brain). (See the illustration to the left.)
Acting on this signal, the cerebellum initiates a postural adjustment – either towards an upright position or towards a slouched posture.
Your posture affects your entire body. Good posture creates positive, healthy changes in the body, whereas bad posture creates negative changes.
How proprioception can be used to eliminate chronic pain
Taking advantage of the body’s proprioception, I use specific prescriptive proprioceptive insoles based on the results of extensive computer analyses of your posture. These insoles adjust the body’s posture in a specific, predetermined and positive way. This is done by sending specific signals from your feet to your brain. Your brain acts on these signals and automatically makes a correction in your body’s posture, re-aligning the joints and muscles.
As a result of this global postural correction, chronic muscle and joint pain is greatly reduced or totally eliminated and the entire body is encouraged to readjust itself towards a state of harmony and well being.
Proprioceptive Therapy and more specifically, Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy, is a type of therapy that uses specific complex tests, proprietary computer analyses, continual monitoring and prescriptive designed and fabricated proprioceptive insoles. The end result of Rothbart Proprioceptive Therapy is a permanent improvement of your body’s posture and a great reduction or total elimination of your chronic foot, knee, back, neck and jaw pain. In addition, there are many other benefits received from permanently improving your posture. They include:
By straightening the shoulders, the ribcage is opened and pressure is taken off the lungs. This allows for better respiration.
Healthier Intestinal Tract
By reversing the anterior rotation of the pelvis, the intestines and colon are decompressed. Waste products can then pass through the colon more quickly and efficiently, eliminating the pain associated with gastro-intestinal distress.
Relief of Chronic Fatigue
Improved posture reduces hypertonicity (tightness and strain) within the postural muscles. Lactic acid is reduced and the body has more energy.
Healing of Diabetic Ulcers
With improved postural positioning of the foot, blood flow into the foot is greatly enhanced. This allows the diabetic ulcer to heal, reducing the likelihood of a partial or complete foot amputation (Case Studies, Group Health Hospital, Department of Orthopedics, Tacoma Washington 1996).
Resolution of Fertility Problems
By reducing the anterior rotation of the pelvis, the blockage (Isthmus Block) between the ovaries and the fallopian (uterine) tubules is removed (See Figs 3 & 4 below). This allows the egg to pass more freely into the fallopian tubules, where conception normally occurs.
Reduction of Menstrual Pain
By reducing the forward rotation of the pelvis, the blockage between the uterus and the vagina is reduced. This allows the waste materials, generated by menstruation, to be passed out of the body more efficiently. This in turn, diminishes or greatly reduces menstrual pain (and low back pain). (Bellevue Study 1993-95)
As a result of correcting the posture, the head sits more correctly over spine and so the neck muscles can relax. Because many headaches arise from tension in the neck muscles, headaches become less frequent and less intense.
Resolution of Symptoms Associated With Fibromyalgia
Poor posture can produce pain symptoms from the feet to the jaw. For this reason it’s not uncommon for patients suffering from multiple pain symptoms to be diagnosed as having Fibromyalgia. But, when the posture is permanently corrected, often symptoms associated with Fibromyalgia disappear.
A Profound Effect
Taking advantage of the body’s proprioception by using a specific proprioceptive stimulation can solve so many chronic body problems that in the past were considered unsolvable. This is done naturally, without the use or need of drugs or surgery. It makes good sense to treat your body in a kind and respectful way, allowing it to heal itself naturally.
